FAQ'sHow long will it take me to obtain my degree? Earn an associates degree in 2 years - with your summer off - by attending classes on the weekend. Or, earn a culinary diploma by going to school 1 day a week for 2 years. When do classes meet? Academic classes meet Saturday either between 8AM - noon; or between 1 - 5PM. Culinary labs are held on Sunday between 7AM - 6:30PM (please review course schedules with your culinary admissions adviser). Can I transfer my credits from other colleges? Yes. Johnson & Wales does offer a liberal transfer credit allowance. The CE admissions officers would be happy to set up an appointment with you to do the evaluation on the spot, or if you wish to mail us a transcript we will evaluate the transfer credit and send you a copy in the mail. Do you offer "life experience" or "work experience" credit? Yes. J&W offers what is called "prior learning assessment credit". Students may earn credits for the knowledge or skills they have mastered outside the classroom through volunteer work, employment, travel programs, organizations or other comparable sources. This can be earned through portfolio development or with departmental challenge examinations (credit by examination). J&W also accepts CLEP examination credit. Also, students who possess advanced knowledge and skills in food-related areas may apply for the Culinary Arts or Baking & Pastry Arts A.C.A.P. Examination. It is recommended that applicants have a minimum of 3 years of food-related experience. Contact the CE Admissions Office for more info. Does J&W assist with employment upon graduation? Yes. Our Career Development office is available to make sure you're well-prepared for your independent job search and on-campus interviews. There is also an annual career conference that attracts almost 200 leading employers to J&W for on-campus recruiting. For those alumni already satisfied with their current employment situation, lifetime placement is available regardless of graduation date. What type of accreditation does J&W have? Johnson & Wales University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Does J&W offer Continuing Education Classes? Yes, at our Providence, North Miami and Denver campuses. Please contact the Continuing Education representative at your campus of interest. |
