Hugh Sinclair, '99What brought him to Johnson & Wales? "Destiny I suppose. For me, it wasn't a measured pathway. As an expatriate from the world of architecture, I came to J&W to learn what it would take to do something I enjoyed, and how much I could push myself and still be excited about it." On his current role... "I enjoy the flexibility and being able to explore through my clients with cuisines that I don't get to involve myself with on a regular basis. I also enjoy the fact that I, for the most part, am able to control what happens in my day. But I am also aware that I am the person responsible for the success of my business." On the J&W education and experience... "it provided for me a foundation from which I could build on. Some things I use more often than others, and if there is something that I don't know, I know where I can go for information. My education at J&W affords me the use of the best tool - communication. This manifests itself in all forms, from the way I have communicated with peers and subordinates to potential clients. Networking is key, and being able to communicate with others is helpful for self and business." The most important thing I learned at J&W... "The ability to listen. And I don't mean hearing what someone says, but being able to understand what you have heard; knowing that what you have heard makes sense, and if not - ask for clarification." |
