Beau MacMillan, a 1991 graduate, works as the executive chef at Elements Restaurant in Scottdale, Ariz., part of the Sanctuary Resort. His innovative seasonal menu so impressed a Food Network programming director eating at the restaurant, that he recruited him as a contestant on "Iron Chef America." Originally aired on March 5, 2006, the episode pitted him against Bobby Flay in a Kobe beef battle -- which Beau won! More about MacMillan: MacMillan hails from Plymouth, Mass. His culinary career began at the age of 16 when he secured a position at Crane Brook Tea Room in Carver, Mass. MacMillan spent a year there as an apprentice under the tutelage of Chef Francios Demueloge. Inspired from this experience, he joined the brigade at La Vielle Maison in Boca Raton, Fla., rising through the ranks to the position of Sous Chef. Intrigued by the culinary scene on the West Coast, he moved to Los Angeles where he held sous chef positions at the prestigious Hotel bel Air, and later at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. He was recruited to Arizona in 1998 to develop the cuisine at The Ranch on Camelback, which later became Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain. He and Chef Charles Wiley opened Elements Restaurant in March of 2001 and MacMillan was named executive chef in 2004. MacMillan has cooked at The James Beard House and has been featured in and cooked for Bon Appetit Magazine in New York. He has also been invited to cook at the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. MacMillan has been fortunate enough to cook for the likes of Michele Richard, Jacques Pepin and Michele Roux Sr. as well as celebrities such as Britney Spears, Vince Vaughn, Alicia Keyes and U2. He is also the personal Chef for Wayne Gretzky and family.
