BBQ 4 U

By Manny Haider

“Grilling, broiling, barbecuing - whatever you want to call it - is an art, not just a matter of building a pyre and throwing on a piece of meat as a sacrifice to the gods of the stomach.”     -James Beard
No surprise that May is National Barbecue Month! Grilling can be a very fun, flavorful, healthy, and relaxing way of cooking. Just being outside alone stimulates the body’s own production of Vitamin D. But beginners beware, it’s more than just lighting some coals and watching a piece of meat catch on fire while sipping a beverage. Here are some tips to tame your grill:

- Cook your lean meats on a lower heat to avoid charring
- Trimming excess fats will prevent flare ups
- A clean grill is a happy grill and won’t stick as bad
- Use one side of your grill to cook marinated or cut vegetables such as peppers, corn and onions
- Don’t be afraid to experiment with different foods like stone (peaches, etc) and other fruits
- DON’T OVERCOOK, no one wants to eat dried out, charred food, lower heat is your friend
