Social Seniors are Healthy SeniorsBy Erica Boshnack
As the years progress, you start to realize that nobody lives forever. As you grow older, loved ones may pass on leaving you on your own. This can be very depressing, and affect so many aspects of your life, including your diet. It just doesn’t seem worth the time and effort to prepare meals when you are only going to eat them alone. This can lead to poor nutrition due to lack of eating or just unhealthy grazing throughout the day. If you can relate to this, I have a few ideas to help spark your appetite… • Invite family and/or friends over once a week for a nice dinner. • Join a local senior center and find other single seniors to dine with on a regular basis • Invite your grandchildren over, and teach them how to make your signature dish • Move into a senior community where you will be surrounded by others looking to socialize and share meals • Consider calling your local meals on wheels if you are unable to prepare food or shop on your own • Start a dinner club with some friends where everyone contributes a dish Back to the Front Page |
