JWU Alums take on Iron Chef America!

Three JWU alums have had the opportunity to appear on the Food Network’s hit series, Iron Chef America, taking on the Iron Chefs in an intense 1 hour competition to see if they have what it takes to take down the likes of Iron Chefs Bobby Flay and Masaharu Morimoto.

Beau MacMillan:
A 1991 graduate, Beau works as the executive chef at Elements Restaurant in Scottdale, Ariz., part of the Sanctuary Resort. His innovative seasonal menu so impressed a Food Network programming director eating at the restaurant, that he recruited him as a contestant on Iron Chef America. Originally aired on March 5, 2006, the episode pitted him against Bobby Flay in a Kobe beef battle -- which Beau won!

Michelle Bernstein:
A 1994 graduate, Michelle began her culinary career at several award-winning restaurants including Red Fish Grill and Christy's, located in Coral Gables, and Tantra in Miami Beach. She trained with Jean Louis Palladin, one of the only Michelin Chefs (two stars) in this country, and honed her skills at Alison on Dominick and Le Bernardin in New York. If this weren't enough, for two years Michelleco-hosted The Food Network's Melting Pot, a show that presents the traditions, stories and recipes of her Latin background. Michelle came back to The Food Network in 2005 to take on, and defeat, Chef Bobby Flay on the show Iron Chef America.

Kurt Boucher:
Kurt, a ’96 graduate of the JWU Providence campus, is the executive chef of the Pine Creek Cookhouse in Aspen. His menus showcase wild game and fresh seafood, with modern French and Asian flare. Taped on October 19, 2006, the episode of Iron Chef America aired at the beginning of 2007. Rising to the challenge, Boucher also emerged victorious.

Graham Elliot Bowles:
Graham Elliot Bowles got his start cooking at the Jackson House Inn & Restaurant in Woodstock, Vermont. Working under the world-renowned chef Charlie Trotter, Bowles learned what is meant to work at the highest level of culinary professionalism. As Chef de Cuisine of Avenues at the Peninsula Chicago, Bowles is flourishing and developing his own creative culinary style. These accomplishments led Bowles to Iron Chef America, where he took on famed chef Bobby Flay; which airing in February, 2007.  Chocolate was this episode's secrete ingredient, but Chef Flay came out victorious

Chris Cosentino:
After graduating from JWU in 1994, Chris Cosentino has been on a whirlwind fast-track. After stints in Washington, DC's Red Sage Restaurant and Kinkead's, Chris moved on to a post at Rubicon in San Francisco, Drew Nieporent's The Coach House in Martha's Vineyard, and finally opened his own, acclaimed Incanto in San Francisco. Cosentino went up against Chef Mario Batali, one of the Food Network's American Iron Chefs, in April, 2007. Cosentino put up a great fight, but ended up loosing to Iron Chef Batali by 2 points in the great "Garlic" battle.
