Sadruddin Abdullah Honored by the BCA

Sadruddin Abdullah, assistant professor at the Charlotte Campus, was honored at the Bridging Culinary Arts annual gala on February 25, 2006, with the James Lewis Award. Honoring the 40-year foodservice career of James Lewis, a man who rose from dishwasher to become executive chef of Restaurant Associates, the award recognizes individuals whose persistence and fortitude overcame the obstacles that historically confronted persons of color in foodservice.

The BCA is a nonprofit hospitality networking organization that is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for minorities in the hospitality and foodservice industries. The group hopes that the award "sends a strong message of inspiration to our youth, as evident in James Lewis’ life, that anything and everything is possible."
