Students, Alumni Travel to Finals of Kikkoman Imaginational

Six finalists, selected from nearly 300 entries in the Kikkoman-Johnson & Wales University Imaginational Recipe Challenge, competed on February 4 at the North Miami Campus for the grand prize of $6,000. After the judges had made their decisions, Adam Policinski from the Providence Campus was declared the winner for his "Tomatillo Soup with Pulled Soy Turkey and Sour Cream."  
 
Students and alumni at all campuses were invited to submit creative recipes for appetizers, entrées or desserts using Kikkoman Soy Sauce or Less Sodium Soy Sauce.
 
The finalists, who all received $1,000, included:
  • Astrid Auchmuty of Roscommon, Ireland - Pina Colada Style Twist
  • Susan Beach of San Francisco, Calif. - Peach-Ginger Upside-down Cake with Peach and Green Tea Coulis
  • Jamie Fann of Coral Springs, Fla. - Orange Glazed Filet with Latin Style Mashed Potatoes and Tomato Salsa
  • Denise Greenwood of Rindge, N.H. - Savory Sweet Potato Flan
  • Stefanie Poulin of Napa, Calif. - Pan Seared Sea Scallops with Roasted Green Chile Soy Sauce
The judges included Debbie Carpenter, food service and industrial marketing manager at Kikkoman; Michael Bloise, executive chef at Wish Restaurant, Miami Beach and a 1998 graduate of J&W; and Tim Andriola, executive chef at Timó Restaurant, Sunny Isles Beach.
