Providence

Revitalized and renewed, Providence, Rhode Island is widely known as The Renaissance City, and consistently voted as one of the country's best places to live. An historic city with perfectly preserved 18th and 19th Century architecture, Providence is located in the middle of the highest concentration of colleges and universities in the U.S.

The city boasts a nationally celebrated culinary scene, a flourishing arts and culture community, and a vibrant waterfront area where you can take a gondola ride while watching Water Fire -- a summer-long artist installation of 100 bonfires set on floating braziers in the 3 downtown rivers. The city is so hot, it inspired NBC's hit series named "Providence," as well as the new Showtime series "The Brotherhood" that will premiere in the fall of 2005.

Providence is just 45 minutes from Boston, Cape Cod and Newport and 3 hours from New York. Known as the "Ocean State," Rhode Island has more than 400 miles of pristine coastline with 100 beaches. The state has 20 percent of the nation's registered landmarks, most of them in Providence and Newport -- which is known as the sailing capital of the world. Because of Rhode Island's historic charm, it has been the site for the filming of 7 major motion pictures over the last 2 years.
